PIZZA DELIVERY COYOTE SPOTTED IN CALIFORNIA WITH GIANT SLICE OF PEPPERONI.

Greaves suspects that “Pizza Coyote” is a female, one who had pups earlier this year. But he doesn’t think that she was bringing the pizza to her pups, because they’re too old now and likely out hunting for themselves. “It was nearly half a pizza,” he said. “This has got to be for herself.”

When the new dogs in town are coyotes: Expert Camilla Fox on co-existing with them.

What’s more: Berkeleyans are reporting coyotes sniffing around their back doors and trotting down their sidewalks, not just in the hills, but in Central Berkeley, West Berkeley, and other parts of town.

So people understandably ask: What are coyotes doing around town? And can city-dwellers peaceably coexist with these native wild “song dogs?”

Why Is This Deer Licking This Fox?

When Chris Lowe first saw the buck stoop to lick the small, silver-speckled fox, he thought his eyes might be playing tricks on him. He’d just gotten back from a run on Santa Catalina, a remote Southern Californian island where he studies sharks, and came upon the two animals in the scrub. Mule deer and island foxes, the rascally miniature descendants of gray foxes, are everyday sights on Catalina’s grassy hills. But to see them nuzzling was downright weird.
