Hairy stems and leaves, leaves in groups of 3, leaflets in lobes of 3.
I don't understand what is going on with the taxonomy here and the varying species and subspecies definitions by source so I will leave it at this until it's clear to me. Swamp "version".
Growing in a rather open and exposed location, so most of the semi-characteristic small hairs on the twigs have been rubbed off by wind or snow. (There are still a few, best seen in photo #5.)
Also note yellow-green foliage, forward orientation of the needles, and pointed red buds.
The needles had the characteristic citrus taste, very different from the acrid, unpleasant taste of White Spruce needles.
