Trapped in a restaurant. Released outside in the bushes.
Alive, with some feistiness left in it, but definitely not in full health. After the close approach for photos initially, it managed to evade capture, so I did not manage to take it to Wildbase.
Ant? Have no idea what this guy is seen high up on a tree trunk, any identification ideas are welcome
Found in podocarp/broadleaf forest. This South Canterbury endemic is found between the Waitaki and Rangitata rivers, with southernmost populations being a bit larger at 20-23mm and having bronze reflections, while more northerly populations being slightly smaller and having more greenish reflections.
Dead on beach, about 1.5 m in length
Native Podocarp-broadleaved bush, at night. Under rotten log.
Larva about 30mm in length, found under rock in suburban park area, most likely from Mecodema brittoni, a local endemic species from a very large and widespread genus.
