Location accurate, small green island near Ponce and Campina CT
Seen during a solo bioblitz of Northeast Coral Gables. I specifically tried to find vacant lots and undeveloped green patches.

Black Hammock Wilderness Area, Seminole County, FL, April 2023. Bioblitz.
Feather-like flower (white), light green stem, taller than surrounding plants, surrounded by brown leaves
Low lawn adjacent to disturbed bank of creek. With Taylor Spaulding.
Pine flatwoods. Rugose achene with antrorsely (I'm quite sure) barbed bristles, 1.7mm long below tubercle which is conic and stands out at edges. Leaves 3.5-4mm wide, flat.
Roadside, dry pineland. Cespitose, culm 2m, triangular in cross-section, 2mm thick. Basal leaves 25cm x 4mm, curly, old leaves retained. Few cauline leaves. Inflorescence is numerous turbinate clusters of <10 spikelets on stiff branches. Bract exceeds inflorescence slightly except on the terminal one. Spikelets dark brown, fat, 3.5mm long, 2 fruits per spikelet, easy to shuck. Achene lenticular, somewhat flattened, rugose, 1.8mm x .5mm + 0.6mm conical tubercle constricted below base. Bristles reach halfway up achene body.
Incredible graminoid. Yeah, I said it.
