Wednesday, 9:10-10:40 am. 4 dead newts - the first of the season...
Weather: cold. We got some rain in San Jose on Sunday, so I wanted to see if there are any newts on the road.
Coverage: Jones trailhead to the second stop sign. I walked with Keith.
We documented 4 dead newts, and one millipede. Keith saw an additional dead newt a couple of days earlier, by the dam parking lot, but it was gone when we were there. We also saw many deer on or by the road, dodging cars.
Traffic - busy just before we got started - there were dozens of bikes going out for a joint ride. Only the first parking lot was busy, the rest of the road was pretty quiet.
15 cars, 6 trucks, 0 motorcycles, 3 bikes, 7 pedestrians, 35 parked cars (1 car at the farther parking lot).
