Beavers’ re-introduction to South Bay going swimmingly.

A newly discovered den on Los Gatos Creek. Documented sightings of beavers and dams from Sunnyvale to Coyote Creek. Evidence that a new generation of beaver kits is about to be born. It has been a good spring for the South Bay’s recently returned and now blossoming population of buck-toothed river rodents.

Bear in California rips apart interior of unlocked car, defecates and spits inside.

California police are reminding drivers to lock their car doors after a bear let itself inside an unlocked vehicle near Lake Tahoe and destroyed the interior.

‘Allie’ the humpback whale still making a splash off Alameda.

An ailing humpback whale continues to linger and splash off the Alameda shoreline, delighting onlookers who hope to catch a glance of it.

They’ve even given the creature a name — “Allie” — and its own Facebook page, where people can offer updates and comments on its activity.

Increase in reports of sick sea lions linked to domoic acid toxicosis, experts say.

Marine wildlife rescue groups have been responding to an increase in sick sea lions over the past few weeks.

The Channel Islands Marine & Wildlife Institute (CIMWI), which covers Santa Barbara and Ventura counties, says the animals are showing signs of domoic acid toxicosis.

CALLING ALL SHEEP COUNTERS.

The orientation, mandatory for all first-time counters and highly recommended for veterans, will be conducted at the University of California, Irvine Steele/Burnand Anza-Borrego Desert Research Center (located at 401 Tilting T Drive, Borrego Springs, CA, 92004) on Saturday, June 22th from 9AM-2PM. We know many of you have counted bighorn for years, but we can all use a refresher. The orientation will cover bighorn sheep identification, California Fish and Wildlife’s recovery efforts, bighorn sheep natural history, census methods, desert safety, and site assignments.

Seals gathering like I’ve never seen before. What to know about these ‘fascinating’ creatures.

These high sea lion impulse events where they gather in huge groups called herds do happen from time to time in ports and harbors. These herds can reach over 1,000 individuals and can cover entire docks, piers and even boats, but researchers aren’t quite sure why they do this?

Yosemite National Park: Rules, crackdown reduce bear problems.

Contrary to legend, rangers have found it possible to infuse brainpower in summer tourists in Yosemite National Park.

The numbers this week show that bear incidents are down 99 percent in 20 years at Yosemite, from a peak of 1,500 in 1997 to a low this year of three. In 2018, they verified only 22 incidents for the year.
