OCTOBER, 2016

A Great walk today while my Prius was being serviced down near the Baylands in Redwood City. Walked out a mile or so into restored marshlands and saw the a Peregrine Falcon in the transmission structure. Later it flew across the marsh getting ever lower until I lost track of it in the distance. Other observations were: Snowy Egret, Black-necked Stilt, Greater Yellowlegs, Sanderlings, Rock Dove, Killdeer, Song Sparrow, Great Egret, Willet, Northern Shoveler, Common Crow, White-crowned Sparrow, Short-billed Dowitcher, Mourning Dove, European Starling, Peregrine Falcon, Black Phoebe, Savannah Sparrow, Golden-crowned Sparrow, Black-crowned Sparrow, White-tailed Kite Ash-throated Flycatcher, Forster's Tern, Black-tailed Jackrabbit(tracks), House Finch, Red-tailed Hawk, Western Pygmy-Blue Butterfly, Sulphur Butterfly, Cabbage Butterfly.

The restoration project is massive and, unfortunately, proving excellent opportunities for invasive plants such as Dittrichia graveolens (Stinkwort) to get a foothold on the land. The areas closest to the freeway have the heaviest infestation.
Winter may arrive some day but until then........
