Weather: hot
Coverage: from the Jones Trailhead parking lot to the second stop sign.
Newts: 1 dead newt - a juvenile.
Other roadkills: beetles, moth adult and caterpillars, a Jerusalem cricket.
Traffic: 33 cars, 1 trucks, 0 motorcycles, 4 bikes, 7 pedestrians, 18 parked cars (1 car in the farthest parking lot).

Do you have any ideas about why the count was so very high compared to previous years? It's so puzzling and heart-breaking.

This year has been so different than previous years, both in the total number, but also in the weekly counts. Every time we had very high numbers, and we wanted to switch to twice a week, the week after the numbers were very low. It was unpredictable. So no, I don't know what was going on.
