2021 in Review

2021 was a great year for mushrooms on PEI. A wet summer and long fall provided a bountiful and long fruiting period. Some highlights:

  • Almost doubled the number of research grade observations from all previous years. Previous to 2021 there were 621 observations in total, with an additional 589 observations added in 2021.
  • Added 80 new research grade species for a new total of 247 species.
  • Melanoleuca cinereifolia, the Dune Cavalier, was found on several island dune systems, first recorded observations in Canada.
  • Samples of Peziza ammophila, the Dune Cup, were sent to Italy to be included in research on the species group.

Have some highlights to share? Send them my way so I can add to the list!
