2021 in Review

2021 was a great year for mushrooms on PEI. A wet summer and long fall provided a bountiful and long fruiting period. Some highlights:

Almost doubled the number of research grade observations from all previous years. Previous to 2021 there were 621 observations in total, with an additional 589 observations added in 2021.
Added 80 new research grade species for a new total of 247 species.
Melanoleuca cinereifolia, the Dune Cavalier, was found on several island dune systems, first recorded observations in Canada.
Samples of Peziza ammophila, the Dune Cup, were sent to Italy to be included in research on the species group.
