A native of the great state of Mississippi in the United States, I recently became a botanist with the US Army Corps of Engineers in Vicksburg, MS. I received my Bachelor’s Degree in Biological Sciences from the University of Southern Mississippi, where I am also finishing up my Masters in Biological Sciences.

The identification, systematics, and ecology of native, wild plants are some of the driving passions in my life. In my free time, I like to travel to nearby National Forests and other parks to botanize and explore the plant communities of these open spaces. Growing up in the range of the Longleaf Pine, I have a special love for Longleaf Pine woodlands and savannas and the incredibly diverse plant communities therein. It follows then that I am most familiar with the plants of this ecosystem where I have spent countless hours exploring everything from sandhills to pitcher plant wetlands.

Even though I am most at home identifying plants from this region, I also am quite proficient at identifying most groups of vascular plants across the Southeastern United States. I’ve also acquired an interest in the waxberries and bayberries (genus Morella), whose range nearly spans the globe. I’ve also cultivated an interest in the bamboos (family Poaceae, subfamily Bambusoideae), specifically, the native bamboos of the Southeastern US, which are all found in the genus Arundinaria.

Feel free to tag me in an observation! If it’s a group I’m familiar with, I’ll do my best to provide an identification. If I don't know it, I’ll let you know. Also, I don’t have much free time these days, but if you’re ever in the neighborhood and want to go look for plants, send me a message!
