Account reinstated.

Born Oct 1999 in Croatia and have a degree in computer science. Currently primarily live in Copenhagen, Denmark. The easiest way to see most of what I do is to have a look at the links below.

Curated lists of incredible species:

The purpose of this collection is to make iNaturalist's best observations easily accessible. Some of these species are genuinely mesmerizing and shouldn't stay hidden in the dataset. A big thank you to the observers/photographers and iNat's staff on building a powerful toolkit.

Collection projects:
Top 100 species obs | All projects merged obs

By taxon:
Fungi obs | Microorganisms obs | Plants obs | Insects obs | Myriapods obs | Arachnids obs | Crustaceans obs | Worms obs | Mollusks obs | Echinoderms obs | Cnidarians obs | Fish obs | Amphibians obs | Reptiles obs | Birds obs | Mammals obs

We can break down taxa even further using existing projects:

I get involved with local wildlife, so I am primarily interested in local species. On November 11th, 2022, I became a Croatian translator and proofreader for all three iNaturalist projects. I translated over 10,000 words and 2,500 strings. Feel free to join! (97% | 100% | 23%)

Helpful checklists for adding Croatian common names:
DONE: Gastropoda (only land snails) | DONE: Orthoptera (grasshoppers, crickets, etc) | DONE: Birds | Butterflies (Papilionoidea) | Some moths and butterflies (Lepidoptera) | Fungi | Fish | Adriatic sea fauna | Adriatic corals | Crveni popis Hrvatske | Plantea | Struna | Proleksis | Hrvatska enciklopedija | Fish commercial names, EU | Plants | Wikipedia categories - plants | Lichens | BioLib.cz | Plant.net

Relevant iNaturalist checklists:

Primary taxonomic interests: Araneae, Brachyura, Mantodea, and Reptilia of Europe.

Stats on my findings: https://www.inaturalist.org/projects/marino-linic-s-observations

See my observation heatmap, identification heatmap and taxonomic tree of observations.

I did this thing where I added tags for rare observations. My "rare" iNat observations in countries (less than ~10 observations at time of upload in the country the picture was taken in), first time a species was catalogued by me on iNat in Croatia1, oldest observation date in Croatia for the given species, and my first observations of species on iNat globally. These are favorite observations of mine.museum|venom|introduced|gifs|hands|flying|threat_display|guides|predation|sounds

Tips:

*italicized text*, _italicized text_ = italicized text
**bolded text** = bolded text
~~strikethrough text~~ = strikethrough text (not shown)
# text / ## text / ### text = title / header text (not shown)
> quoted text = quoted text (not shown)
[linked text](URL) = linked text (check out the link!)
![](URL) = image in comments (URL has to lead directly to the image source; so right click, open image in new tab, and then copy the link)

  • You can use GIFs for image input on findings (and obviously audio as well); this essentially allows video. I would caution against uploading the GIF before uploading the observation, since it is prone to error. Instead, make sure your GIF is under 20 MB in size, and just add it once your observation is already uploaded. Then, give it some time to show up (~15 min)
  • You can use HTML tags, meaning -- links, pictures, superscripts, etc in bios and comments
  • You can see your comments here and all flags here (but change user). Search all comments by specific keyword = inaturalist.org/comments?utf8=%E2%9C%93&q=keyword&commit=Search
  • read up on the search guide
  • Some info on location and batch editing (multiple observations at once)
  • What to look for when photographing various animals to help with ID? Here's another guide
  • On Identify pages, change 30 results per page to 200 - paste "&per_page=200" at the end of the URL. Though actually, I wouldn't recommend this since the page loads slower. Here's an example.
  • You can tell how many people joined before you and what place your membership is at chronologically by looking at your profile URL. For example, you can reach my profile by clicking on https://www.inaturalist.org/people/5691431 or https://www.inaturalist.org/people/marinolinic. Because the URL ends in 5691431, I am the 5,691,431st member. The first person who joined, the creator of the site, is at https://www.inaturalist.org/people/1.
  • The same thing applies to observations. First observation on iNat that hasn't been deleted is at: https://www.inaturalist.org/observations/2
  • Speaking of observations, this is the most favorited and most commented observation on the site. It will load forever. Gerald. https://www.inaturalist.org/observations/5890862
  • Refresh the page if the map isn't showing observations.
  • iNaturalist has an API: https://api.inaturalist.org/
  • This guy and this guy have some additional URLs.
  • If you want to see images of species by annotated categories like sex or life stage, remember that you can do that in gallery. Just press the "+" icon after the 5th image on the taxon page and customize the filter at the top of the page that opens up.
  • iNaturalist demo to get matches based on textual descriptions.
