Where are the rains?
The ranch received a very light rain last evening. I hope this severe drought is not going to be persistent. Really, we have only had very slight rains in nearly a year. The ponds are nearly dry, and the bordering conservation lake is probably under an acre in size. No appreciable run off water in a long time. Last spring, we had some nice rains, and the wildflowers were looking good and then the faucet just turned off. All the flowers disappeared and very few pollinator plants. The honeybees went into a dearth and just a few survived the winter. Things are looking up now, but we sure do need some good, soaking rains. My weather app shows rain predictions as 0.01 inches and 0.03 inches and I wonder how that prediction is forecast. Is this a one drop rain or a fog? Keeping our fingers crossed and not throwing away the rain poncho!
