Over the past week's vacation
Over the past 4 days, I had a short vacation. I stayed in hostels run by people who are former farmers. Such places are often located in the mountainous areas of the Zhejiang Province. I moved from Anji to Chunan which is about over 150 kilometers apart. One locates in the Longwang Mountain Nature Reserve and the other at the tip of submerged mountaintops. They were full-sized mountains were inundated due to dam up efforts take place in the late 60s in the last century to build the first-ever hydro-power plant in China - Xingan River Hydro Power Plant. Besides both spots are well-known tourist sites. They are areas being protected for their biodiversity.
I intended to collect insects in the bushes at night as something I could do at night to make my holiday just a bit more interesting. The fact is diversity was much too harder to find. It surprised me. I thought these places should be infested by different insects. I remembered from years ago it was the case. Some, however, at night after 10, did come under the street lights, but still very few out there. I really looked very hard to find the ones I posted. Of course, it might have to do with the types of lights I looked under were too normal for street lighting purposes. Somehow, these light lights do not attract insects. Over the day light time, I went out for another searching. I didn't find many either. Could they be cleared out for tourist season with pesticides? If yes, it is too bad. I am not sure and no way to find out. Insects were scares on this trip, surprisingly so.
