Found by a friend. My photos here
Gametophore essentially invisible, the leafy bits are other moss species.
inset photo 4 shows habitat: decaying cedar log in an alder bottom
In oak meadow detritus over shallow soil.
Initially thought this was B. piperi, although none of the capsules seem "narrowly ovoid" to me, but rather broadly ovoid. Also the capsule is very glossy. Face oblique to seta. Perhaps I am overinterpreting the ridge that delineates the upper face and this is actually viridis? B. viridis might be a better fit as it is is also noted to grow on humus and has a glossy capsule with the oblique face gradually differentiating into the lower face. I do not have measurements, but the capsule also seems relatively short which is in line with viridis.
One of my best botanical finds! Never expected to see this genus on the island.
Hey @dbltucker you would have loved it. Over DOM over conglomerate. Thanks @bradenjudson
Ridge bounded face strongly oblique to seta. Homalia whisperer @johndreynolds , Targionia whisperer @bstarzomski , Racomitrium whisperer @dbltucker , there is now a Buxbaumia whisperer, and he goes by @bradenjudson. On this one fallen, partially decorticated log, he saw 5 where I saw none.
