Expect this to be a young mcCann's skink? In damp, decaying "firewood"
Accidently disturbed while looking at rocks.
Found when weeding through a vege garden. Didn't get a chance to measure.
really, really tiny, and motionless in the sun, on a decaying harakeke leaf in a pile of harakeke prunings...was in such a hurry to photograph it I failed to mentally measure, but my impression was about 2.5cm L, so maybe twice that stretched out...or maybe less
Development stage?
I saw 2 others in the same small area and a 4th skink which was too quick for me to id
Many of these skinks are inhabiting the gardens and the decking around the house. Likely to be the NZ common skink, although colouration is slightly different to that shown in identification keys. This specimen was 11 cm in length.
