Solitary flowers nestled between basalt rocks on bluffs above the Columbia River.
Located off of Hayward Road in a low-lying, nearly flat drainage area. It grows in spreading patches close to the ground.
Found on the trail from U-Village to UW, just off the trail behind Haggart.
Used "Flora of the Pacific Northwest" by Hitchcock and Cronquist to identify the species.

Growing in Auburn across the street from the sounder station underneath Xanthocyparis nootkatensis.
Ryegrass Summit Rest Area on I-90. Found Mertensia sp. growing in the dog run area in large numbers.
Found growing next to a small creek off of Hayward Road. The area was fairly flat, and the plant was growing among Dodecatheon sp.
Located on roadside, not far from turn-off onto Hayward Road from Highway 10
-pointy, conical buds are visable
-many cones underneath
-rivals the Thuja plicata as the biggest tree in the neighborhood
