Another solo visit -- also unsuccessful -- to find a Bleeding Flower Moth found here by Clint Gibson and Don Fraser a few days ago. Unlike yesterday's route, today I also traveled east across South Road, and I traveled north (for 37 minutes) of the east-west firelane to the north, concentrating on Coastal Plain Chaffhead and (Dense?) Blazing Star (I must have searched 600 stalks of the latter). The weather at the start was sunny, 75 degrees, and breezy; by the time I left, it was sunny and hot.
I left (earlier than expected) at 1310 after the dial on my camera that sets exposure quit working. I went home and ordered a new Panasonic Lumix FZ80 -- my sixth! -- with a three-year extended warranty. It arrives next Wednesday.
A skippering trip with Don Fraser and Clint Gibson; we hoped to refind the Duke's Skipper that I found on 14 Oct (we were not successful). We were mostly west of South Road and walked south to the wetland (which Clint investigated), then we crossed South Road to check out the large areas of blooming Carphephorus (Coastalplain Chaffhead). We returned to our cars, rehydrated, and then left this area (heading for Eagle Nest Sink) at 1332. The weather at the start was sunny and 77 degrees, with a light breeze. By the time we left, it was sunny and 87 degrees ("feels like" 89),
Two days ago, the dial that sets the exposure on my camera quit working. It froze in a rather nice position, allowing most of today's photographs to have been taken in a satisfactory exposure setting. I did not use image-editing software to alter any of these photographs, but I will lighten up images that cannot be identified because they are too dark.
A trip targeting Duke's Skipper (that eluded us) with Clint Gibson and John Lampkin (in one vehicle) and Don Fraser and me (in a second vehicle).
We drove Cumpressco Grade from County Road 471, stopping at a large (Joe) Bidens patch near Ranch Road, then walked into a swamp along Ranch Road. We exited at 1701.
The weather was sunny, horribly humid, and 94 degrees ("feels like 103), with mostly calm winds.

We drove Main Grade to Tannic Road, then turned around at a serious wash-out, then headed east to Powder Road, which is just inside Lake County. These observations are for Sumter County.
The weather at the start was sunny and 83 degrees with mostly calm winds. We entered Lake County at 1008.

We drove Main Grade to Powder Road (just inside Lake County) north about 6 miles, then turned around and retraced our path back to County Road 471. We exited Lake County around 1440.
The weather was sunny and up to 94 degrees ("feels like" up to 104) with mostly calm winds.
