Crest. Relatively close to the road, gigantic crest on a relatively short plant.

Hundreds to thousands of them in the area.

Thousands locally. The base was in open grass, tried to clear it to see if it was visible like M. macrocarpa often is, but was unsuccessful without possibly damaging it.

Clearly not indigenous, but I'd like to know the species and origin. Surprised that IA could not make a match.

sapling replacement. Sharp prickles along length of twigs.

Attracted to oozing injuries on acacia beans.
