Very difficult to take photos of semi clear shrimp swimming around! I am not sure if there are maybe different species in these photos. Need help!
Male. Permitted vernal pool sampling.
Last photo emphasizes the species-specific details pertaining to the distal end of the second antenna.
In playa vernal pool. Approx 1.5 cm or less. Showing both male (top) and female (middle and bottom)
Female with brood pouch suspended between her last pair of legs. End of the season, this was the only fairy shrimp of the day. And yay for citizen science, I was the persistent eager beaver that found it! ID'd by experts, not me... ;-)
NOTE: A permit is required to enter the water or sweep it with a net. Fortunately we were deputized by none other than the author of a field guide to the area (has a permit and was our supervisor). She was coaching a team from US Fish & Wildlife Service. All my IDs for the water creatures are from her. Everyone was super kind, and I greatly appreciate their including and educating us for the morning.
