Small baboon spider (body length approx. 1.5-2cm) with light grey legs - first segment (closest to the cephalothorax) of each leg darker in colour than the rest - and a light grey-brown abdomen with darker patterns. Dorsal side of cephalothorax dark grey to black in colour with light brown patterns. Spider found in a silk-lined tunnel under a rock. Quite docile - possibly due to the fairly cold temperature - and made no attempt to escape when placed back on the ground, even allowed itself to be rolled over onto its side.
This observation was made as part of the Okavango Wilderness Project, a 9-year endeavour to measure the heartbeat of the Okavango Delta. For more information, visit http://intotheokavango.org
Quite tentative on the id- all I did was to try to match up a species already recorded in Erongo. It was under a rock in the lichen field.
