Sighting and photos (c) lync.
Field Notes - On rock. About 25 mm long.
Tiny mantis, Allora
Identified as Gyromantis kraussi on Bowerbird by Matthew Connors: "Sure is! The little spines behind the eyes are a giveaway"
Another termite mound mantis
Identified as Phthersigena conspersa on Bowerbird by Matthew Connors: "The male of this elusive species"
An odd little mantis - Phthersigena conspersa
Identified as Phthersigena conspersa on Bowerbird by Matthew Connors: "Finally found a name! Phthersigena seems to have been 'lost' in the taxonomic depths, with next to no information available on the genus and very few images or diagrams anywhere. This is despite the genus being widespread and with 7-8 species (albeit they are small and cryptic). As far as I can tell these are the first live images of both this species and of the entire genus!"
Found when I was grabbing mosquito larvae.
Seen on a rock by the trail on Castle Hill.
