One of the best weeks/weekends ever at the Texas Master Naturalist State Conference down in the Lower Rio Grande Valley!
Today was especially fun -- all day out in the field to observe the eclipse and engage with nature with like 300 other naturalists! Awesome. :)

Not quite sure what this is, but I dissected it from inside of a native centipede (Nadabius pullus) that was collected in May 2005. Documented parasites of lithobiomorph centipedes include Tachinids (Loewia) and Proctotrupids (Phaneroserphus), but I'm not sure if either of those are what I've got here. The parasite is about 5 mm long and 1.5 mm wide and was taking up the whole body cavity between segments 8-12. Parts of its body were sticking out of the spiracles of the centipede before dissection. Any help in narrowing this thing down would be appreciated! I'm assuming an arthropod based on what typically infests lithobiomorphs, but even that could be wrong.

A aranha estava na borda de dentro da mata ciliar do rio Curimataí. Andava pelos galhos secos de árvores caídas dentro do rio. No local que a encontrei tinham teias de suporte que eram possívelmente usadas pela aranha. Haviam muitas Salticinae com o primeiro par de pernas parecidas com essa que, ao meu ver, eram diferentes e que podem ser de interesse mas, que não consegui fotografar. Acredito que eram mais encontradas pela parte da manhã. No período da tarde e final da tarde não consegui ver muitas Salticinae. O local tinha adultos de grupos funcionais importantes para medir a integridade biótica composta por abundância relativamente alta de adultos de Trichoptera, Plecoptera Ephemeroptera como grupos funcionais na representatividade de ambientes bons para a biodiversidade.

Atualização: As duas últimas fotos mostram o ambiente em que foram capturadas. A profundidade da água não passava de 30cm.
