Exactly one year ago there were over 100 plants flowering along this section of the Mt Wilson Trail. At this time only one flower on one plant was seen, but there are many buds. Unfortunately, a few days before the Mt Wilson Trail Run on May 27, some idiot cut everything in sight along the edge of the trail. Along the lower sun exposed sections completely overgrown with mustard it made sense, but higher in the trees, there was no overgrowth along this section of trail. Whoever this fool was, he mindlessly chopped down 30 to 40 Globe Lily plants. Two photos shows a section of the trail where this was, the base leaves are seen in the ground, but the stems are chopped off, many with buds on them.
7th time we have observed Bombus crotchii at the Canyon Hills project site. There is almost certainly a nest within the project zone.
Foraging on Acmispon glaber.
