Beached but still alive.
Update: died the next day and a necropsy revealed the sperm whale had 330lbs of fishing gear in its stomach that led to emaciation and death

We had pulled over to let another car pass and when we did we accidentally scared it off a fresh kill of a snowshoe hare on the side of the road. https://inaturalist.ca/observations/139659195
The second photo is a habitat shot facing south. I would say there was a brook a couple hundred meters south past the tree line . On the opposite side of the road was a clear-cut a few years old to the north.
