Idaho Monarch Tracking 2022

The total observations for 2022 is 145. This is more than 9 times as many as the 16 seen in 2021. All 145 of the observations are research grade.

The first observation for a Monarch in Idaho on iNaturalist was in 2013. I have collected the data on monarchs seen in Idaho since then . There were more observations of monarchs made in Idaho in 2022 than all other years combined. I cannot say if this is because of more people reporting sightings or there are more monarchs in the area than previous years. All sightings occur from June through October. The data was collected on 8 December 2022. Any observations posted after that date are not included.

Thank you to all the observers!
(I had an awesome table all made up with all the sightings by year and stage but this format will not allow it.)

Hello,

I am working on looking at adult Monarch data for 2022 for Idaho. I am specifically looking for information on how many adult Monarchs were sighted per location.
I sent my data to the Western Monarch Milkweed Mapper website for 2022. I recorded 12 adult Monarchs at Eagle Island State Park in 2022.
I am new to iNaturalist and have looked briefly at the data for 2022. I noted your total of 100 adults in 2022. Could you send the breakdown of how many adults were sighted per location? I am not finding a way to summarize that info.

Thanks,

James Little

What do you mean by location? What size of area are we talking about?

Thanks for your response.
It would be helpful if the location size was 500 acres.
If that is too much trouble to compile, is it possible to show a map with locations of sightings and number of monarchs reported at each location reported?
(Similar to the Western Monarch Milkweed Mapper website)
Thanks

Well, what I have is the basic map that shows up at the bottom of this projects page. I don't have a breakdown of locations other than looking at the map. I'm pretty sure there is no way to make the map on here divide by acreage.

I am not finding the map?

Is it possible to create a spreadsheet showing the number of sightings reported by each observer for 2022?

Is there a way to sort the data shown on the map to only show 2022 sightings?

Yes there is, click on the "view all" button under the most observations section of the page with the map. Once you do that another screen will pop up. There is a filters box in the top right corner than can be used to change what you are looking at.

Thanks, looks like one observer around the Idaho Museum of Natural History observed 17 in 2022.
