Herpetofauna del Parque Nacional Montaña de Celaque

Celaque Mountain is considered one of the most important cloud forest areas in the country, it is the Cerro Las Minas with 2,849 meters above sea level (msnm), being the highest point in Honduras. This area is characterized by its high degree of biodiversity in plants and animals in pristine ecosystems.

The name 'Celaque' is derived from the Lenca word "Celac", which means "water box" or "ice water". The water produced in the skirts of PNMC supplies more than one hundred and twenty communities in its area of influence, reaching more than one hundred thousand people. The PNMC as part of the cloud forests of the country is one of the few forests that have not been systematically explored, however its strong spiritual and cultural values for the region are known.

Important data to show its high diversity, 47 reptiles, 27 species of amphibians two endemic species stand out, such as Bolitoglossa celaque (salamander)

The objects of conservation are the cloud forest and conifers of the height, the pine forest encino, the hydric system, felines and cinegetic species and the endemic salamander Bolitoglossa celaque.
