Sometime I like to play around with ideas for projects that integrate in some way with iNaturalist.
Below is a list of some of these projects:
WildPlaces (Android App)
The app tries to make it easy and fast to view observation / species associated iNaturalist projects.

iNaturalist Achivements
Still a work in progress, but functional. I'm not sure when I'll get around to finishing it.
The project will scan your most recent observations and calculate which achievements you completed.

iNaturalist Small Observations
Still a work in progress, but functional. I'm not sure when I'll get around to finishing it.
The project can generate a "small" version of an iNaturalist observation.
Useful if you want to embed the observation into something like a blog.

WildLog
A desktop application I developed and use to keep track of my wildlife observations. Especially useful for camera trap data. All my personal observations are linked with my WildLog workspace.

This is fantastic. I really love the achievements. I wish it would use all my observations instead of only 300 most recent. @dcoldren, check this out.

You can use the URL parameters to increase the limit, but I set the default to 300 to try and honor iNaturalist's policy of not exceeding 100 requests per minute. (I still need to add something to the code that can throttle requests that exceed this limit.)

That's awesome but just a heads up the mammal tryhard achievement isn't catching my humpback whale, pinnipeds, and otter observations. Everything else looks great.
I also have a beaver and a muskrat but I don't know if you intended those to be included in that achievement.
I wish iNaturalist would just incorporate things like achievements or badges. I think people would really get a kick out of meeting goals. The Android app has a thing called Missions that gives you local organisms that you are missing from your personal list of observations to incentivize going to look for things that are new to you. I think this would be a more effective way to "gamify" going out and making observations.
I agree, having official iNat achievements would be cool. Another thing I would like to see is to have "goals" added to projects. That way people can work together to reach milestones.
Yes! I would love to set goals for my projects. Like when you start a new project at a location you can say "our goal for the first year is 500 observations of at least 250 species" and it gives you meters for observations and species that track the progress. That would be fantastic.
