Some HEROES have been making observations for a year, in the midst of war.
We see an increase in activity in the west, a reduction in activity in the east and the maintenance of the level of activity in Crimea.
Compare results from this ONE YEAR OF WAR project with the ONE YEAR BEFORE project.

ONE YEAR OF WAR = 2.516 iNaturalists (Observers) => 66 %
ONE YEAR BEFORE = 3.800 iNaturalist (Observers)
Number of Observations:
ONE YEAR OF WAR = 196.261 Observervations => 77 %
ONE YEAR BEFORE = 254.829 Observervations
Number of Species Identified:
ONE YEAR OF WAR = 10.320 species => % 103 % - FANTASTIC!
ONE YEAR BEFORE = 9.983 species
During the war, the quality of observations increased causing a larger number of species to be identified, even though we have 2/3 of the participants.
Focusing on biodiversity observation, comment on how this was a year of war making records.
What strategies did you use!
I in Brazil, like other iNaturalists around the world, have no idea what it's like to make records in the midst of war.

unfortunately the war is still going on and it should reach one year, on the 24th of February.
You made 193,460 observations, identified 10,245 species, mobilized 2,502 participants and 3,386 identifiers during 11.5 months o war!
Congratulations!
I created a One Year Before project (02/24/2021 to 02/23/2022), so that there could be a comparison of the number of observations, the number of species and the number of participants and the number of identifiers.

It's unbelievable, but you have 6% more species identified now than a year ago.
You made the amont of 96% observations of the period "one Year Befora", during the war.
It is a shame that the war is still going on.
Just as you are recording biodiversity with great resilience, you will win the war.

Dear colleagues. I added the territory of Crimea to the project, because it is the territory of Ukraine and the Ukrainian army is already conducting actions aimed at liberating Crimea from the occupiers.
Unfortunetely the war is still there!
Ukraine is registered as one of the more than 450 regions from 50 countries on the planet that will be participating in the City Nature Challenge 2022.
If it is possible to participate without putting your life at risk, I invite you to participate in the 7th City Nature Challenge 2022, which is the world's largest event to record local Biodiversity.
At last year's event, more than 1,2 million observations were made worldwide by more than 50,000 participants.

The unexpected is happening!
War doesn't give a truce. How much longer?
Many local heroes continue to make records of biodiversity amid the chaos.
Ukrainian nature will survive!
This terrible war insists on not ending after 3 weeks.
I bring a comparison between the observations carried out between February 24th and March 17th, comparing last year (2021) with this year (2022).

The strategy now is to get more members to this projet, specially Ukrainians, who still have the conditions to do so, to participate in the project. They can also be inaturalists from outside, from anywhere, like me.
The fact that 70 Inaturalists are making observations of local biodiversity during the war is unbelievable. Congratulations to you!
After the war the nature restauration will be a very difficult effort
