All good things must end

While this location continues to be a good spot for mothing, several small changes have come along which are decreasing the greatness of Brookshire's for mothing. This Brookshire's used to be at the edge of town, shining it's bright, mercury-vapor lights into the dark countryside. Now, several businesses have sprung up in the vicinity, increasing the light pollution at night and competing for the attention of insects. In addition, the store was remodeled last year and the exterior walls have been painted a more drab, tan color which doesn't reflect the light as well as the old, white walls did. Finally, the parking lot lights would turn off about 10 pm, sending all the moths to the main building. They now stay on all night. The fact that I no longer have a night job will also decrease my exposure to the night life here. Regardless, I will continue to observe whenever I can and hope to see many moths in the future!

Brookshire's bugs?

Hi! I'm wondering if I should change the project to include all taxa of arthropods that show up to the lights. There has been great diversity of coleoptera and orthoptera, among others that are just as interesting as moths. What do y'all think?

300!!

We just hit the 300 species mark! Thanks to everyone who has helped me identify and increase my moth knowledge from "nothing at all" before last year to "novice" now :)
