I appreciate all who take the time to ID. The quantity some IDers are doing astounds me.

As urban development continues to expand in Spokane County, Washington's wildlands, identifying plants in the remaining accessible natural areas helps me appreciate what is protected. It is good to see how many people are doing the same.

I ID erratically (but never erratic IDs) for Spokane County plants that don't have similar species, are common, and are distinctive. I've given up on grasses, as well as plants that often hybridize (for example berberis, rosa, and salix.) I am not an expert of anything related to biology or botany.

Related bits:
Ten years as Master Gardener with emphasis on Integrated Pest Management and organic gardening. Six+ years key person (yeah, my job title) at a large garden center. I had to decide how many snow blowers to order in July. I talked a whole lot of people out of buying pesticides.

I was fortunate to have been active in the Northeast Washington Chapter of the Washington Native Plant Society when there were 3 botanists + 2 foresters(!). They taught me a huge amount about local flora. I led ID walks only after they confirmed my notes.

I published a newsletter for the Spokane Mushroom Club so I could interview the experts and went on every field trip.

I wrote technical publications for a few decades. I persuaded one business to let me sell all sorts of unneeded equipment. The proceeds were donated to the Dishman Hills Conservancy and to the Inland Northwest Land Conservancy. I donate lump sums to iNat 2x a year under a different account, but can't quantify this great resource.
