Hello!!! I hope anyone reading this is doing well. I am a 17 year old high school student, avid birder, and naturalist from Chicago Illinois. I was diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder at a young age, which explains why when I show interest in something, I dive deep into it.
The natural world has always been such a captivating thing to me. The fact that there's so much to see wherever you go, and that things can change so fast is just such a cool concept. I remember before I even began elementary school, I knew so many names of prehistoric creatures and could talk about how cool each and every one of them is for hours at a time. I just couldn't get enough of prehistoric life and astronomy for so long, but in the summer leading up to my freshman year of high school everything changed.
I attended a program for teens going into high school interested in natural history and met someone who was particularly interested in birds. We talked about our interests for hours during and after the program, and without much convincing, he persuaded me to download this app as well as eBird.
Since then I have spent as much free time as I possibly can out exploring nature, looking for something that I have never seen before. Not only does the great outdoors serve as my happy place, but it has taught me so much about life and people that I can call it something that is truly important to me. This is why I want to protect it and all it's unique and beautiful species and ecosystems, so that others can find the peace and happiness within themselves that the natural world brings out.
I have trust that humanity can do better, as long as we appreciate nature for what it is, and likewise all appreciate each other for what we are. For far to long natural science based careers hobbies have been kept mainly to affluent, non-minority people. We can all benefit from a diverse, representative collection of all backgrounds of humanity working together to help nature, and everything else. We ought to show everyone the same level of respect and care that we show those closest to us, it really will bring us a better world in the end.

On a temporary note:

I am currently backlogged in terms of getting observations up, I have been busy applying to college and taking care of other personal responsibilities, and so if you left a comment or have something you'd like me to check out I'll get to it as soon as I can.
