My name is Valerio Sbordoni, I have been Full Professor of Zoology at the Tor Vergata University of Rome, Italy. Now I'm retired yet I’m active as a member of the PhD school in Evolutionary Biology and Ecology.
In my life-long research activity, I dealt with population genetics and evolution of several organisms, with special regard to butterflies and organisms adapted to cave life. I’m involved in different facets of biodiversity (
I’m the scientific responsible of the the Italian Biodiversity Network (NNB) and of the Regional Biodiversity Observatory of Latium (OBL), since when it was established in 2002, and a member of the Coordination Board for “LifeWatch-It” biodiversity digital infrastructure. I’m also a member of the Scientific Committee of WWF Italia, of the IUCN Species Survival Commission, and President of the Italian Society of Biogeography.
My special interest are cave fauna and butterflies, particularly those of the Palaearctic Region and the Oriental ones.
