SOS: Saving a Swellendam mountain from manganese mining: 24-25 September 2022
On the 24th - 25th September, auspiciously Heritage Weekend, BotSoc and CREW members as well as enthusiastic nature lovers from Swellendam will bioblitz Klipfontein Farm restants (non agricultural farm fynbos/renosterveld hill/small mountain) for two days to discover rares/critically endangered / presumed extinct flora on an area not botanized for a long time. This is to retard or even stop manganese mining on scarce fynbos/renosterveld patches left in the Overberg. One Critically endangered species and one NT have already been found there recently - who knows what we will still find?
