Sanibel/Captiva Specimens (July 13, 2022)
Sanibel and Capitva islands in Florida USA are known for not only the abundance of seashells but the diversity as well. Many websites and books have been devoted to the shells from these islands. What one finds changes from day to day and from beach to beach. This journal post is a documentation of early morning finds on Captiva island on July 13, 2022 from approximately 6:30 am to 7:30 am. Arriving a the beach that morning, a sizable shell pile (12 feet long, 5 feet deep and about 3 feet tall) had amassed along the shoreline near the breakwall. Because of a rising tide, the pile was quickly disappearing. The following specimens were found by picking through the pile on site and by collecting a bucket of smaller debris to be sorted later.
