Flora of Mongolia on iNaturalist

Since 2008, iNaturalist (https://www.inaturalist.org/) has been crowdsourcing biodiversity observations made by citizen scientists, as well as their taxonomic identifications. Recently, many countries launched their own project on the iNaturalist platform based on flora, families, and genera. Since 2019, we have been established project as "Flora of Mongolia" on the iNaturalist platform. Because this platform is open and free to both scientist and non-scientist in the world. To date, a total of 33,272 photo observations of 2077 taxa have been uploaded by 472 people including scientists and amateur naturalists. Among the observations, 23,241 observations are identified "Research Grade" at species level by researchers. Larix sibirica L. (207 locations), for example, has the most-richest species observations, followed by Dianthus chinensis L. (200), Sanguisorba officinalis L. (181 locations), Taraxacum officinale F.H.Wigg. (169) and Artemisia frigida Willd. (167). There are two online databases including Global Biodiversity Information Facility (GBIF) and Virtual Guide to the Flora of Mongolia (FloraGREIF) from worldwide based on Mongolian herbarium collections. In comparison to the GBIF (43,596 herbarium observations) and FloraGREIF (app. 13,000 herbarium and photo observations), our project (Flora of Mongolia, 33,272 photo observations) is the third online and largest database platform in Mongolia.
