some kind of moth that came into the house on plants brought in from the cold
Update: I added a second photo showing both birds on the metal frame at the same time. This photo is enlarged to show the wren, a Caroline wren. This observation is a pair of wrens, Carolina wrens I think, that have decided to build a nest in the shelter of the roofed patio of our house. The weather recently has been extremely hot, breaking records for air temperature and heat index. After trying to discourage them for a day or two, we have opted to let them use the shaded patio site they selected. I happens to be a hula hoop storage rack on the outside wall of the house. The area they are trying to build is not flat and it is not cupped upward, rather it is filled with hoops, which all slope away from the top. I don't know if they will succeed, but they are continuing daily, delivering very decayed leaves and softened decayed stem one at a time. In terms of material selection, there seems to be a strong preference for softened materials, they are not selecting oak leaves and other stiffer materials. wish them luck!
