Vivid red and brittle cap with faded red/white edges around the cap. There are notable red striations around the margin of the cap. The gills are pure white and extremely brittle. The gills are long and then and just barely meet with the stipe. The stipes is pure white with a hint of very vague white veins. This was growing straight out of the dirt, there was a hardwood tree a few feet from the specimens.
These specimens were small, about an inch long. The cap was shiny brown which had a contrast mix of lighter and darker tones of brown. There was a gorgeous white stripe along the bottom edge of the cap which led to these thin, white gills that ran all the way to the stipe but did not run down the stipe. In between most long gills were more gills that instead of running to the stipe, stopped very short and were only millimeters long. The stipes were white and smooth and had no veil. The stipes weren't straight on these specimens and had a bend in them
Growing from the base of a dead poplar. Smell and taste not distinctive. Texture somewhat crisp / crunchy
