Could be aquatic garter snake not sure. On bank of Klamath near trinity
Night, 52, Raining, Found eye shining, Identified by broad and rounded head, dark uniform coloration, larger size, conspicuous parotoid glands. Adult, Sex Unknown.
On Quercus agrifolia leaf. Hundreds of specimens in the immediate area.
Was originally thinking it was a red-sided garter but Google images (as well as the examples on iNat) shows them to be so much more vibrant, although my field guide noted there's a lot of variability with the intensity of the red spots. ID help to subspecies is greatly appreciated.
