There were a pair of these in a tree right at the Devon Energy site on Doyle Road, facing toward me. By the time I stopped the car, lowered the window and grabbed the camera, the first had flown away, and the second bird (pictured) took flight as I was zooming in. Not a very good picture, but it's worth submitting since it's uncommon here, as well as a lifer for me.
Growing in the dirt underneath a decaying log in the woods
This is the same branch a barred owl perched on every single day for a few weeks last year, right around this time of year. I can only assume it's the same owl.
Observed sleeping inside a manmade structure. The door to the box was partially ajar, possibly due to weathering of the latching mechanism. I was not expecting anyone to be home! The owl was in a deep sleep and appeared undisturbed by my presence. I tried to gently secure the door to the box, hopefully limiting exposure to the elements and potential predators.
