Small grove of kanono shrubs by the river in mature totara forest. Some dead, some distressed, some with a mix of healthy foliage and deadwood.
Plant was roughly 1 meter tall with leaves that were about 10 cm long. The veins of the leaves were slightly indented in the surface.
Kanono abundant on Huia Ridge Track. Many large specimens, small shrubs and seedlings. Many of the large specimens were dead or dying, old lesions on the trunks, black peeling bark, deadwood.
Large multi-branched kanono mostly consisting of dead wood. One shoot still had leaves.
Reasonably healthy kanono with glossy leaves and plenty of fruit. Some deadwood on the tree.
Significant cicada herringbone scar damage on branches. Some thinner branches had broken in half at the scar site.
Many examples of dead and dying kanono along Pukematekeo Track.
Shrubs are either completely dead, or have dead branches, blackened, peeling bark, distressed foliage.
This was near the coast at Punakaiki at a restoration area. The temperature was cold and it was extremely rainy. The wind was moderate and there were minimal disturbances.
A new record for the Hokianga. Twenty odd plants in 'coastal' forest in bare ground under puriri (Vitex lucens) and Hebe flavida.
In heavily browsed herbfield, coastal Kunzea regrowth.
