While walking out to the Shotover Delta saw this. What is it?
Need ID for first photo only. This photo is typical of most "Lophomyrtus bullata" seedlings supplied by a commercial nursery for ecological restoration. All look like hybrids with L. obcordata to me. I obtained a L. bullata specimen for comparison (on left in 2nd photo). It is clearly bullate. The supplied plants all appear to be intermediate. Most are similar to L. bullata but are hardly bullate (as with example on right in 2nd photo). Others look closer to L. obcordata (see additional photos). The presence of any hybrids raises my suspicions about the rest (we had ordered pure L. bullata). Allan (1929) illustrates intermediate forms and also says L. bullata can be less bullate in shade http://link.springer.com/article/10.1007%2FBF01718904#page-1. All comments appreciated.
