Dark brown-black fungus (or mold, scale wort, moss or lichen?) growing on a fallen hardwood twig in Lee County, Alabama, USA. Teeth or coarse hair. Could not see any pores even with magnification. Dark brown-black spores or powder. Slight fishy smell when wetted. Nearby trees: primarily oak, birch, sweet gum, maple and pine, as well as non-native Ligustrum and Elaeagnus pungens.
Lichen, possibly Genus Sticta

Large, shelf fungus growing on a dead, fallen oak tree in Lee County, Alabama, USA. Underside had yellow pores/tubes, eventually growing black hair-like tufts/spines? Top of fungus is white to yellow with black or dark brown velvety edges. There is a cross-section photo, but the lighting and quality is bad due to sun going down.
