Listened to male sing A song for several minutes. Attached recording is a few representative clips I stitched together from a longer file recorded on my phone.
Unlikely habitat for GCWA, but song is unmistakable. He was in Discovery Well Cave Preserve in a patch of second-growth junipers, surrounded on all sides by subdivisions and open oak savanna. But it’s not far from higher-quality BCP land.
Nest monitored under permit. Unusually large percentage of shed snakeskin in outer layer of construction
ASY/DPB F
Banded and released by permitted professionals for research purposes
There is also a black crested titmouse and a canyon towhee in this recording but the focus is the warbler
Saw the bird, but it was too skittish for me to get a photo. Got some good recordings. Observed on Discovery Trail, right next to the interpretive sign that says...Golden-Cheeked Warbler :)
