Reddish-brown squirrel seen in Kieni Forest - Kenya. The forest is moist montane forest at over 2200 m altitude on the lower slopes of the Aberdares. The squirrel was arboreal, moving swiftly along branches, though more in the mid-canopy. The tail was very long and slender, making the squirrel appear similar to a Slender Mongoose in shape. Fur on the underside of the body (from throat to tail tip) was very dark/blackish but there was a prominent white spot on the chest. Note that this photo was slightly over-exposed due to the forest's dark conditions on a cloudy morning, so the colors of the fur appear slightly lighter than they actually were. Someone suggested this is a member of the Paraxerus genus. Anyone able to ID this one?
