Although this seems cultivated because it is in a maintained landscape, no nonnative trees or shrubs have ever been planted by humans in the landscape of this shopping center. A bird planted this tree about 20 years ago, so it is wild. Also, the tips of the dead branches give us an idea how tall this species can get in 20 years. That was its size before dieback in the aftermath of the unusually long and intense cold of February 2021, dubbed Winter Storm Uri by the Weather Channel.
ECRTMN Hotter Than Hell BioBlitz at the park. The +100° F temperatures, lack of rain, and the scalped (closely mowed) landscape has negatively affected the variety and quantity of species observations.
