Open conifer forest, about 5000 feet elevation. Plants rhizomatous, with pubescent perigynia.
Santiam Pass. The last photo shows both Carex halliana and Carex inops, which were growing together. The Carex halliana is more robust and has a deeper rhizome system. It is not yet flowering.
Lost Lake along Highway 20 in the Cascades. 4000 feet elevation. Very common under conifers in uplands. Rhizomatous.
