Evidence of beaver activity at this pond. About 75% + of trees around the edge of this pond show evidence of beaver activity from removed bark, bite marks, removed tree limbs, or completely felled trees.
Additionally the third picture in this series is a possible lodge at the northern end of this pond, although I have only observed the beavers in person at night around the southern end of this pond (where I will put a second series of observations)
Evidence of beaver activity at south-western end of pond. Refer to additional post of evidence at the northern end of pond.
This area of the pond is where I spot the beavers at night. Hard to get good pictures of the beavers as they only appear to be active at night after well after twilight.
The pond is a popular place for dogs owners from the apartments to the west and from the neighborhood to the east to let their dogs run around and defecate by as I see lots of off leash dogs and heaps of dog poop all around the pond. Also at the southern eastern corner of the apartment complex mentioned above there is a fenced in dog park less than 50 feet away from this thicket of trees.
Additionally the area around the whole pond is mowed to the very edge of the water with most of the trees being in the water. the only area around the entire pond that has dry area that has any sort of cover is at the bunch of trees at this location. There is a possible lodge at the northern end of pond( see my other observation at northern end of pond) but I have only seen the beavers directly at this portion of the pond.
I have video of the beavers at night swimming or lurking in the debris around this area, and I have two videos from separate nights about a week apart of one of them tail-slapping the water and swimming in circles around this area when they become aware of my presence. Last four photos are screenshots from one of the video of the beaver tail slapping the water, as it doesn’t seem you cannot upload video onto iNaturalist or upload the mp3 of the video as sound only.
